I would strongly advise against forcing an update on your tablet, as this could potentially have a negative affect on the tablet as this is an older version and it's components were not made to support a higher version than the latest software (which is 4.4.4). It may be a good time to upgrade perhaps, and get a newer tablet with cooler features!
I checked that the version that is installed on the phone is 140.2.6, which is the newest version (May 3) on the Play Store. It looks everything is OK for now. Bernd.

For surfing the web try different browsers. For example: Via Browser and etc. Also if you can root/jailbreak it, you could give some a bit newer Android versions a try. Like Android 4.4.2 works fine for surfing the web(a lot of browsers stopped supporting it, but Via Browser works fine.) –
