It is an update to the short-lived Nikon 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G IF-ED that was introduced in 2002 and discontinued in 2006, and it might also replace the older Nikon 24-85mm f/2.8-4D IF that is still in production as of today. With an equivalent focal length of 36-128mm on DX sensor, it is better suited to be used on full-frame cameras.

Oct 20, 2020. #6. I just purchased a Nikon 24-70 f2.8G non-VR off ebay and I'm waiting for delivery. It's a later serial number 772xxx, only 4 years old and seldom used and without issues. I pray it's perfect. I plan on making it my go to lens, but will pull out my Nikkor 35mm f1.4 AI-S lens for street shooting. OP.
